Didi Robello

Background

    DIDI ROBELLO

Didi Robello is a second generation Waikiki beachboy, carrying forward a legacy of aloha, respect, and stewardship that has been passed down through his family. Growing up immersed in the traditions of Waikiki, Didi learned early from his father, Harry Robello, the essence of hard work and guest service that defines a true beachboy. Harry was instrumental in shaping Didi’s values, instilling in him a deep respect for the land, the ocean, and the visitors who come to experience the beauty of Hawaii.

Didi’s heritage is also 3rd generation Kahanamoku. Didi embodies Duke’s values, honoring a lineage that understands the powerful connection to the land, sea, and culture of Hawaii. In Didi’s own words, “The mana is in the creator; we, as caregivers, take care of the coconut trees, the sand, the grass, plants, rocks, and ocean, making it one.” For Didi, this means that to truly serve the land, he must cultivate it, honoring the environment in every action it takes.

Didi emphasizes the importance of playing safely, never risking safety for the sake of a thrill. He understands that the respect and care given to the land and ocean are reciprocated, as nature has a way of returning the energy you put into it. His role as a Waikiki beachboy isn’t just a job; it’s a calling to uphold the spirit of aloha, ensuring that all who visit can feel a piece of Hawaii’s soul while keeping themselves and the environment safe. Through Didi, the timeless traditions of Waikiki beachboys continue, connecting the present generation to a profound legacy of stewardship, respect, and joy of Waikiki.
